NotesA birth registration was found for Henry John Dewberry: Year of Registration: 1896; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: Hackney; County: Greater London, London, Middlesex; Volume: 1b; Page: 556.

In 1911, Henry Dewberry, 15, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 77 boys en route to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Henry's original placement was at the Kitchen Farm, Waterford, Ontario, Canada.

On June 1, 1915, in Simcoe, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Henry Dewberry, 19, farmer, born in London, England (he was unable to give his parents' names); and Lizzie Densling, 19, born in Waterford, Ontario, Canada, daughter of William Densling and Nellie Gray.

Henry's life has been written into a novel by his grandson, Richard P. Tanos. He tells of the book, "The Home Child tells the story of Henry Dewberry, a twelve-year-old orphan from London, England. Henry was one of a hundred thousand children who made that incredible ocean voyage to a so-called better place, called Canada. Blessed by a stroke of fate, Henry clumsily meets Lizzie, a local middle-class girl who lives in the town of Waterford, Ontario. Lizzie, along with her best friend Clara suddenly figure out what is taking place and both of them do everything possible to find out where Henry has been sent. This historical story is based on actual events and reflects life in South Western Ontario, Canada in 1907 -- called Canada West."
