In 1884, James Garry, 16, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 41 Shaftbury boys.
His first placement may have been on the Irelands Farm located on the Guelph line, in Nelson Township, Halton, Ontario, Canada.
On April 6, 1893, at Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between James F. Garry, 23, butcher, resident of Detroit, Michigan, USA, born in England to Thomas and Elizabeth Garry; and Harriet Mary Hennings, 22, resident of Detroit, Michigan, USA, born in England to Lamartine Hennings and Harriet Woods.
James Frederick and Harriet Mary (Dolly) Hennings Garry had six children: Grace Garry, born August 1893; Arthur L. Garry, born April 1895; Queen Victoria Garry, born May 24, 1897; Elgin Thomas Parmenter Garry, born June 8, 1905; Percival Garry, born October 1906: Mabel Harriet Garry, born December 3, 1908; and, . One daughter was stillborn on July 26, 1900, and a son Lamartine lived two days February 1910.
Harriet (Dolly) Mary Hennings Garry died on February 8, 1910, at 36 Cheever Street, Wentworth, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, of puerperal eclampsia (convulsions and coma that are associated with hypertension, edema, or proteinuria, occurring in a woman immediately following childbirth), 2 days duration.
Daughter, Grace Garry, kept house for her dad and looked after her siblings, Arthur, Queen, Elgin and Mabel. Grace Garry married Byron Leslie Cutter in 1912.
On September 25, 1915, at Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between James Frederick Garry, 46, market gardener, widower, born in England to Thomas Garry and Harriet Moisey; and Mabel Denney, 36, born in London, England, to George Denney and Anna Matilda Woods.
James F. Garry and Mabel Sarah Denney had one daughter, Lillian Mary Garry, born 28 July, 1918.
