In 1872, George Aburn, 16, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a party of 7 boys from the Shoe Black Brigade.

On July 5, 1879, at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between John Auburn, 22, shoe cutter, born in London, England, to William Thomas and Elizabeth Auburn; and Minnie Jordan, 21, born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to John and Sarah Jordan.

John George and Minnie Jordan Auburn had at least 5 children, all born in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada: Arthur John Auburn, born October 22, 1882; Lillie Auburn, born November 7, 1887 - died September 16, 1888 of internal hemorrhage, 2 days duration; May Ruth Auburn, born June 8, 1886; Violet Auburn, born April 13, 1880; and Walter Auburn, born May 10, 1884.

On July 22, 1913, John George Auburn, 58, shoecutter, and, Minnie Auburn, 54 arrived in the United States from Bristol, England, on the SS Royal George. John George Auburn declared that they became naturalized citizens of the United States on July 25, 1900 at Rochester New York; that they resided in Rochester, New York; that their contact in England was William Auburn, who resided at Hackney Road, London, England; that their final destination was Rochester, New York; that they resided at 769 Larson Road, Rochester, New York. John George Auburn was described as 5 foot 7 inches in height; fair complexion; brown hair; blue eyes. Minnie Auburn was described as 5 foot 2 inches in height; fair complexion; brown hair; hazel eyes.

John George Auburn returned to Canada (possibly with Minnie Auburn) about 1920. Minnie Auburn died prior to 1925.

On January 24, 1925, at Aurora, York, Ontario, Canada, John George Auburn, 69, shoe cutter, born London England, of Aurora, Ontario, Canada, widower, son of William Thomas Auburn (b. London England) & Elizabeth M. Knapman, married Mary J. Gower, 67, housekeeper, of Aurora, Ontario, Canada, widow, daughter of Joseph Irwin (b. Ontario) & Nancy Vance, witn: Thomas Tisman & Jennie L. Soanes(?), both of Aurora.

John George Auburn died at Toronto General Hospital at the age of 72 on January 14, 1928, at 1:06 a.m. The cause of his death was uraemia, complicated by broncho-pneumonia, after an operation on his prostate. The informant was his daughter, Mrs. Rhoades, who resided at 77 Coaly Street, Rochester, New York.
