NotesSent by Medway Union

November 23 1899

with James Hogan, farmer, P.O Dunrobin, Carleton, Ontario

age about 14, fair home, employed at farm chores, health good, attends church regularly, does not go to school, character-he has a bad temper, disobedient and untidy about the house. Terms-Board and Clothing. Mr Hogan keeps another boy older than Birrand, and the two boys do not work well together, they disagree and quite frequently quarrel. Birrand does not get along with Mrs Hogan. I think a change advisable. Miss Proctor notified.

with William Brown, farmer, P.O Venosta, Low Twp, Wright, Quebec

December 11 1900

Age 14, comfortable home, employed at farm chores, generally healthy, attends Roman Catholic Church, no schooling, character-rather contrary disposition, otherwise well behaved. Terms-Board and $25 per year for clothing. Henry Birrand is not a very robust boy; is of rather slight physique and complains that he has weak spells at times; accompanied by chills and cold prespiration. He states that he has always been subject to these, and in my opinion is not able to do any really hard work. I should judge that in his present place he is not overworked. He has made good progress here, and Mrs Brown appears to take a parental interest in him
