NotesA birth registration was found for Owen Smith: Year of Registration: 1875; Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec; District: West Derby; County: Lancashire; Volume: 8b; Page: 469. Parents: Michael Smith and Mary/Ann McAteer, married 1876 in West Derby, Lancashire, England.

In 1887, Owen Smith, 12 (along with sister, Ellen Smith, 6), arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 96 children from Catholic Children Protection Society, Liverpool, England, accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Lacy, and en route to Hotel Dieu, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

On November 26, 1905, at St. Mary's Church, Napanee, Lennox and Addington, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Owen Smith, 27, plumber, born in England to Michael Smith and Mary McAteer; and Margaret Breaugh Goodmurphy, 26, widow, born in Desoronto, Ontario, Canada, to Michael Breaugh and Sarah Nolan.

Owen and Margaret Breaugh Smith had at least one child: Michael Jerome Smith, born April 7, 1904, at Hastings, Ontario, Canada, died December 21, 1999, at Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA.

On September 12, 1918, Owen Patrick Smith registered with the United States Draft Board. He declared that he resided at 131 Michigan Street, Rochester, Monroe, New York; that he was 43; that his date of birth was November 1st, 1875; that he was white; that he was a naturalized citizen of the United States; that he was a gas fitter for the Rochester Railway Lt Co, 34 Clinton Avenue, Rochester, Monroe, New York; that his next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Margaret Smith, who resided at the same address. He was described as medium build; medium height; blue eyes and black hair.

In October, 1951, the following newspaper announcement was published (newspaper not known):

"Party Fetes County; Florida Trip Set

An Open house for about 175 friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Owen P. Smith of 81 van Bergh Ave., was held to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary last night at their son's home. The couple were married in St. Mary's church, Napanee, Ont., Canada and came to the United States in 1905. In that year, Smith went to work for the Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation where he was employed until his retirement eight years ago as a street foreman.

Both are members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and Mrs. Smith is also a member of Auxiliary 123 Knight of St. John. On Oct. 26, Mgsr. John S. Sullivan pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church will celebrate a Mass for the couple. The Smith's have four children: Mrs. Edgar Butts of 106 Cragg Rd., Mrs. Williams Falls of East Rochester, Mrs. William Carter of 185 Alexander St., and Michael J. Smith of 80 Coleridge Rd., where the open house was held. the have four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Margaret Jane Breaugh Smith died February 23, 1960, at Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA. Owen P. Smith died on November 25, 1963, at Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA, at the age of 88.

Owen and Margaret Smith are buried at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA; Section 22, Tier 3, Dbl 21.
