NotesCharles, along with his 5 siblings, was orphaned in 1890. Charles and brother Sidney were sent to Canada with the Barnardos. His two oldest sisters, Annie and Louisa, went out to work and remained in England for the rest of their lives. His two youngest sisters, Amy and Nellie, were put into foster care. In 1897 the girls also came to Canada through the Barnardo Homes. He married Grace Robertson Craig on December 1, 1902, in Lambton, Ontario. He became a Market Gardener in Forest, Ontario and delivered produce with a horse and cart. He died on May 23, 1917, in Forest, Ontario, at the age of 40 leaving 2 sons and 3 daughters.
