The Recorder And Times,Wednesday,May.15.1985...Obituaries...Malcolm 'Mac' McKay,93....Malcolm (Mac) McKay,93, a retired employee of Parks Canada, NULL,died at St.Vincent de Paul Hospital on Monday,May 13 after being a patient for the past two weeks.Mr.McKay who came to Canada in 1908 as a Scottish orphan boy to work on farms in this area,had been residing at St.Lawrence Lodge for the past three years and was featured in the Christmas edition of this newspaper in 1982. Born in Glasgow, Malcolm MacIntyre McKay was a son of the late James McKay and the former Janet Bradley. His father had been a stone mason who built churches and died when Mac was about four or five.His mother died when he was only two. Mr.McKay on the liner "Corinthian" along with 72 other boys who settled over Canada. When he first arrived he was sent to a farm near Perth on the Scottish Line,then came to the Mallorytown district as his sister,Isabella McCrimmon McKay was working there. He met and married Edna Florence Herbison of the Mallorytown area and worked in Kingston at the locomotive works during World War One,building engines for service in India. After 12 years he developed lung problems and returned to the fresh air of the Mallorytown area,getting a job with the National Parks at Mallorytown Landing.He and his wife lived at Escott for many years and he continued working for the parks until retiring at age 72.He was predeceased by both his wife and sister,Mrs.Charles(Isabella) Hodge, the same year, his wife dying in December,1967. He was also predeceased by two brothers in Scotland, James Bradley McKay and Alex McKay. Mr.McKay sold his home in Escott after his wife's death and moved to Crystal Beach (Long Beach area) residing there for several years until entering the lodge on August.17,1982. Mr.McKay is survived by two daughters and one son, Mrs.Dorothy Ritt of Chicago,Keith (Bud) McKay of Chilliwack,B.C. and Mrs.Sheila Nordman of Brockville,who is employed at St.Lawrence Lodge: also six grandchildren,four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were with the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel,4 James Street East,where a memorial service was held Wednesday,May 15 at 2 pm. with Rev.Harry Disher of Christ United Church,Lyn officiating. Cremation took place at Cataraqui Crematorium. Memorials to St.Vincent de Paul Hospital or Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care services or the Public Library at Escott will be gratefully acknowledged.
