In 1905, A. McKeen, 11 (along with his brother D(avid) McKeen, 10) arrived at Quebec, Canada, with a group of 433 children, males to Toronto and Winnipeg and the females to Peterborough. There were nine adults on the end of the list who were traveling with the group. Frederick Franks, a boy aged 7, was listed as going to Peterborough.

On January 22, 1917, Alexander McKean, 23, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in Miniota, Manitoba, Canada; that he was born in Middlesboro, England; that his next of kin was his brother, David McKean, who resided in Beulah, Manitoba, Canada; that he was a farmer; and that he was single. He was described as 5 foot 3-1/2 inches in height; fair hair; blue eyes; fair complexion. He was a member of the Church of England.

Alexander Alexander McKean and Mary Bard were married October 9, 1929 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Miniota, Manitoba, Canada by Rev. G. L. Armstrong. Mary Bard had been born in Miniota. She took nurses training in Winnipeg, was on staff for Victoria Hospital of Winnipeg and also worked at the hospital in Miniota.

Alexander and Mary McKean had four children: Charles McKean; Wilbur McKean; Reginald McKean; and Robert McKean.

Alexander Alexander McKean died on May 28, 1975, at Hamiota Hospital in Miniota, Manitoba, Canada. His obituary was published in the Brandon Sun:

McKEAN: Alexander McKean, aged 81, passed away quietly on May 28, at Hamiota Hospital. He was born in Middlesbroung [sic], Yorkshire, England, and he immigrated to Canada as a Barnardo orphan at age 12. He came to Miniota as a foster child of the Boyce family and was raised in the Miniota are. Alex was a veteran of the First and Second World Wars. He farmed in the Miniota are and also worked for the CN Railway until he retired in 1959. He was predeceased by his brother, Dave, also of Miniota, in 1956. He is survived by: his loving wife, Mary; his four sons, Charlie, Wilber, Reiny, Bob and their wives and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 31, 1975.
