War Introduces Brother to Sister

Brother and sister met for the first time in their lives at a railway station in Aldershot, England, largely through the efforts of a Winnipeg woman, Madame Bertha Tilley, 1427 Alexander Ave.

The brother is Pte. Joseph Edwards of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, of Toronto, who had formerly worked on western farms, and his sister is Margaret Jane Edwards, who lives in South Wales. they had been brought up separately by Dr. Barnardo's homes and it was not until Joseph was 14 and just leaving for Canada that he knew he had a sister two years older than himself.

Miss Edwards, who went to live in South Wales, began to correspond with Madame Tilley in Winnipeg, through a correspondence column in a women's magazine. Miss Edwards inquired about her brother, and Madame Tilley found him through inquiry at army headquarters in Ottawa.

After Joseph went overseas, he and his sister arranged to see each for the first time. He has a wife and two children in Toronto.
