In March 1913, Clifford Taylor, 24, entered the United States through Niagra Falls, New York. He declared that he was a silversmith; that he resided in Toronto, Canada; that he had no relatives in Canada; that his final destination was Meriden, Connecticut; that he carried $65 in cash; that he was going to visit a friend, Charles Petty, 52 North First Street; that he was 5 foot 7-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; brown hair; blue eyes; that he was born in Sheffield, England; and that he had arrived in Quebec on August 4, 1912, on the Corsican.

On January 24, 1916, Clifford Taylor enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he resided in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; that he was born in Sheffield, England; that his next of kin was his mother, Mrs. Rosa Taylor, who resided at 143 Providence Road, Sheffield, England; that his date of birth was May 11, 1888; that he was a silversmith; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 8 inches in height; fair complexion; blue eyes; light hair. He was a member of the Methodist faith.
