In December, 1914, Leopold John McCarthy, 28, real estate broker, cross into the United States through the port of St. Albans, Vermont, USA. He declared that his last permanent residence was Calgary, Alberta, Canada; that his nearest relative was his mother, Margaret McCarthy, who resided in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; that his final destination was Portland, Oregon; that he had previously visited the United States between 1904-1908 in Washington State; that he was going to join his wife, Margaret McCarthy, who resided at 546 E. Alder Street, Portland, oregon. He was described as 5 foot 11 inches in height; medium complexion; brown hair; blue eyes. He was born in Middlesex, England and emigrated to Canada through Halifax on the ship CPR Canada. [EDITORS NOTE: Margaret Mary had already entered that States bringing along their 1 year old Canadian born daughter Irene, WHO was born in Alberta.]

Leopold John McCarthy was naturalized as a United States citizen on June 18, 1917, at Spokane, Washington.

On September 12, 1918, Leopold John McCarthy registered for the United States Draft. He declared that he was 32; that his date of birth: May 16, 1886; that he resided at 501-1/2 Valley Street, Seattle, King, Washington, USA; that he was an alien and a citizen of Canada; that he was a Salesman; that his place of employment was O'brien Mfg.; tht his next of kin was Margaret May McCarthy. He was described as tall; medium build; gray eyes; light hair.

In 1942, Leopold John McCarthy, 55, registered for the US Draft.
