NotesThe following records have been discerned for Private Sidney Roland Poole.

1901 English Census records place Sydney R Poole born about 1898 as the Grandson of Eliza and William B. Poole in St. Giles, Northamptonshire, England. His mother, Sophia A Poole and her brother Albert E Poole were also in residence. William was a Bricklayer by trade, Albert worked in the Boot Trade and Sophia worked in the Shoe trade. Sophia was listed as Single.

1911 English Census records placed Sidney Poole still within the residence of his Grandparents Eliza and William Poole at 144 Adnitt Road, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England. Also in residence was their son William Poole, daughter Sophia Poole and her two children including Reginald Poole who was only one year of age. William was listed as a Bricklayer, William was out of work and Sophia was listed as a shoe manufacturer, as well as being Single.

Additional notes: The Passenger List from the 'Lake Manitoba' states 'Released by Board' suggesting Board of Guardian involvement in his placement. He is also listed as a 'Clerk'. This ship arrived 18 May 1914.
There was a previous shipping record on the 'Empress of Britain' ship for 1 May 1914 departure from Liverpool to Quebec that listed Sidney R Pool, 16, 'Clerk' as a passenger but he was crossed out.

Attestation papers were signed 1 Jul 1915 in Edmonton, Alberta. Sidney Roland Poole was born 26 Feb 1897 in Northampton, England. His Next of Kin was his Grandfather W.B. Poole of 144 Adnitt Road, Northampton, England. He was an Elevator Operator by trade. He had previously served with the 101th Edmonton Fus. for 1 year. 5'7" in height with brown eyes and black hair, he had 'hammer toe' on his middle right foot. His religion was listed as Church of England.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers and Circumstances of Casualty states that he had been missing in action, and was declared Killed in Action in an attack west of St. Olle, which is now Raillencourt-Sainte-Olle, Nord Pas de Callais, France. Next of Kin was Mrs. W.B. Poole c/o Mrs. J. Turrell of Birchmoor Arms, Woburn, Beds, England. His body was not recovered for burial, his name is listed on the Vimy Memorial in Vimy, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
