with Mrs Battle, farmer, P.O Thornton, Simcoe, Ontario

September 10 1900

The postmaster states there is no one by the name of Battle residing at Thornton or vicinity, and no one of that name receives mail at Thornton Post Office. I referred to the voters lists for the Township but found no such name on the List. A letter addressed to James Battle came to the office some time ago, and not being called for, it was returned to the dead letter office after thirty days.

with Mrs James Battle, P.O Thorold, Lincoln, Ontario

December 18 1900

Age 14, properly selected home, employed as a nurse girl and general servant, very robust health, attends Roman Catholic church not school, character good but rather stubborn. Terms-receives $4 per month wages. Nellie Fisher has a very suitable place here, and there appears to be no reason why she should not do well. She has an estimable mistress, and I am satisfied, one who will look after her well. The girls general appearance was quite satisfactory; she was neatly dressed, and is quite contented.

with Mrs J Taylor, 679 Bathurst St, Toronto City, Ontario

October 31 1902

Age 16, first class home, employed at general housework, good health, attends Roman Catholic Church, character good-rather heedless for her age. This girl has been very desirably placed. Mrs Taylor takes a great interest in her, and has furnished her with a splendid supply of clothes. I fear, however that she is rather a difficult girl to keep under control, and does not appreciate as she should the kindness which she receives here.
