Leonard's shipping record say he was from the Father Hudson's Homes in Coleahill, Birmingham. They were headed for Ottawa, Ontario. Four years after Leonard arrived his brother Harold was also brought to Canada in 1932 by the Dr. Barnardo Homes in the last Dr. Barnardo party brought to Canada. Harold returned to England in 1938 and would enlist in the army. On May 23 1941 Harold was killed in action in the war. His name appears on the ATHENS MEMORIAL in Phaleron War Cemetery, which lies a few kilometres to the south-east of Athens.

Leonard and Harold had several other siblings including Nellie, Dennis and William Thomas. In 1929 William Thomas would travel to Canada to join his brother Leonard in Canada, also stating that his intended occupation in Canada is to be a farmer. William returned to England on 27 Nov 1933, there he would marry a Francis Smith and have several children. Leonard and Harold's brother Dennis would pass away in England in 1924 at the age of 14, cause unknown. His family has now told me that he did die in a Children's home in England. Leonard would also return to England, just a few months before his brother William returned. Both boys were headed to 33 Orlando Street in Walsall, England. Family found October 2011.
