NotesThis is my grandmother, I never new that she was a BHC child till just a few years ago, through her brothers son. I don't even know if my father knew. My grandmother married my grandfather in North Bay, Ontario in 1912. I have not yet learned where she was between her arrival in 1904 and her marriage in 1912. They then moved to Thorold, Ontario and raised three children. My grandfather was 17 years her elder. He died in 1948, she remarried in 1955 and moved to Michigan, New York till his death in 1965. She is buried in St. Catharines, Ontario with her first husband, my grandfather. She died in 1979. My dad always said she was a very strick mother not always affectionate. Now that I know her back ground, probably had been sent into Barnardo's care at about age 6 just after her father died. Her mother could not care for all the children by herself, she kept the youngest boy and a mentally handicapped sister. My grandmother was put into Dr. Barnardo's care with an older sister E.M Ward. I cannot imagine how it must have felt to go to bed each night without your mother to tuck her in at such a tender age. She was a fortunate person because her sister E.M. went back to England after she was released from her work period in Canada, married and raised her family there. E.M. (Ellen May) known as Nellie got back in touch with her mother. Her mother re-married in 1908 had one more son but her second husband also died just three years after her marriage. She immigrated to Canada with her son in 1924 and was put in touch with two of her children who were BHC children, my grandmother and another brother John. You see besides My grandmother Eliza, Elizabeth Ward, who stayed in Canada, there was another brother John Ward who I cannot seem to find on the ship records. He ended up in Canada but run away to the states and lived out his married life in Rochester, New York. He will always be my favorite granduncle, we loved him so much. Their mother Amelia passed away in Thorold, Ontario in 1942. My grandmother was one of the lucky ones. It is hard to read some of the stories of so many children who were so much less fortunate. Thank you for the opportunity of putting her on this list.
