NotesSent by Barton Regis Union

June 1 1899, with Mrs James Cookson, farmer, Kings, Charlotte, New Brunswick

Age 10, very good home, employed at farming, health good, attends church and school very regularly, character very good,
terms-kept as her child. Mrs Cookson is highly pleased with the boy.

Feb 19 1900

with Mrs James Cookson, widow, P.O Downeyville, Kings, NB

Age 16???, good home, employed at farm work, the only man about the place, a very healthy boy, attends Baptist church, does not attend school, character good generally-fairly truthful, inclined to be bad tempered. Terms-Board, Lodging and Clothes. Mrs Cookson likes the boy; he is a stout lad and appears to be much interested in the work of the place. He says that he is quite contented, and is ambitious to be a farmer.

August 6 1902, with Mrs Jane Cookson, Downeyville, Kars Parish, Kings, NB

Age 16, comfortable home, employed at farming, good health, attends Baptist Church, good character,
Terms-Board and Clothing. Smallbone has developed into a stout, rugged chap and is well suited for farming. He has done very well during the past year and appears to be settled down. Mrs Cookson is a widow and has a small farm. She is not, in my opinion, in a position to pay good wages. Smallbone's experience here will be of assistance to him in earning a fair wage later on
