1911 Canadian Census lists George Towels as a single 28 year old male born Aug 1883 in England, having arrived from England in 1894. He is a Domestic in the household of Ester Jane and William Hawkin in Renfrew South, Ontario.

Attestation papers signed 9 Aug 1915 in Toronto, Ontario. George James Towell was born 5 Jun 1884 in London England. He was a Milkman by trade. His Next of Kin was Felicia Towell of 8 North Row Bldgs, Marble Arch, London, England. 5'2 1/2" in height, with grey eyes and fair hair, he had one scar on his wrist and two on the back of his neck, a birthmark on the back of his left hip and five vaccination marks on this left arm. His religion was listed as Church of England.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers states that George was previously reported missing and then Killed in Action. He was buried in Adanac Military Cemetery, Miraumont, Somme, Picardie, France.
