A death registration was found for George Rankin, 35, Clothlapper (journeyman), married to Sarah Cook: Date: May 9, 1886, 1:20 a.m.; Place: 684 Springfield Road, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; Parents: John Rankin and Sarah Rankin; Cause: Valvular Disease of Heart with Hypertrothy and Pulmonary Congestion.

A death registration was found for Sarah Rankin, widow of George Rankin, Clothlapper: Date: September 11, 1897, 8:10 PM; Place: 18 Windowpane Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire (usual residence 709 Springfield Road); Parents: Robert Cook, baker, and Sarah Paterson (both deceased); cause: Chronic Bronchial Catarrh, 6 months.

In 1907, John Rankin, 15, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 102 Scottish children from Quarrier's Orphan Homes of Scotland and en route to Brockville, Ontario, Canada.

On April 26, 1915, at Westport, Leeds, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between John Rankin, 23, farmer, born in Glasgow, Scotland, to John Rankin (mother's maiden name Cook); and Jessie Gardner, 22, widow, born in Glasgow, Scotland, to William Kerr and Mary Reid. [EDITORS NOTE: Jessie McKelvie Reid Muir Kerr was the sister of two Quarrier boys, Andrew Reid Kerr and George Douglas Kerr. Jessie, 19, had married William Stark Gardener in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 26, 1912. No death record for William Gardner was found.]

At least 4 children were born of this marriage: Glady Rankin, born July 16, 1916, in Ontario, Canada, died January 7, 2005 in Garden City, Michigan; Isa Mae Rankin, born October 3, 1919, in Ontario, Canada, died August 17, 1982, in Westland, Michigan; John Douglas (Jack) Rankin, born Januaryh 7, 1923, in Ontario, Canada, died September 8, 2008 in Southfield, Michigan; and Christina Kerr Rankin, born August 12, 1925 in Ontario, Canada, died January 30, 1958, in Michigan.

John and Jessie Rankin removed to Michigan (USA) after 1925.
