NotesCalvert Clarkson is the son of Charles Calvert Clarkson & Catherine Gillard. He was born in Jarrow, Co Durham, England, the youngest of 6 children. The 1901 Census shows the family together living at 43 Wear Street, Jarrow, South Shields.

At the age of 7 (according to the census) Calvert's Father died. By the 1911 Census, Calvert, then aged 11 and his elder Brother Charlie were both residents of Dr Barnardo's in Stepney East London. Charlie was listed as an Apprentice Printer and was then aged 17. Their Mother was still living in Jarrow, her Daughter Mary aged 13 is listed with her at 51 Albert Road, Jarrow. I don't know why or how her boys had come to be living in the Dr Barnardo's home. I can only assume that their Mother could not afford to keep them.

Calvert boarded the Ship Sicilian on the 29th June 1911 and set sail to Quebec, his destination was a Farm in Toronto.

Calvert enlisted in the Canadian Oversea's Expedition Force and records show that he has 3 Regimental numbers listed - 226905; 528050; 805767.
