In 1901, Arthur Ayre, 4 years of age, was residing at 24 Londesborough Road, Stoke Newington, London, England. Other family members included: Elsie Ayre, 9; Frederick Ayre, 45, baker / bread maker; Frederick Ayre, 10; Maud Ayre, 7; and Myria Ayre, 40. In 1909, Arthur Ayre, 11, arrived in Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 72 children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (His sisters, Elsie Ayre and Maud Ayre arrived in 1910 on the Tunisian.)

In 1911, Arthur Ayre, 14, is shown as a domestic / labourer to Sylvester G. and Mary Elizabeth McFane in South Dumfries, Brant, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as November 1896, his birthplace as Ireland and his immigration year as 1909.

On July 19, 1915, Arthur Ayre, 19, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Middlesex, England; that his next of kin was his sister, Mrs. Sheldon Grier [Elsie Ayre], who resided at 27 Sydenham Road, Woodstock, Ontario, Canada; that his date of birth was November 2, 1896; that he was a laborer; that he was not married; and that he had previously served for 3 months in the 22nd Regiment, O.R. He was described as 5 foot 4 inches in height; medium complexion; brown eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Church of England. He had distingushing features of a scar on the polmar region of his left thumb; a mole on his back one inch from his spine on right side; a round scar on inner side of right knee; a mole on the right inguinal region; and a mole on the left inguinal region.

On June 20, 1920, at London, Ontario, Canada, a marriage was registered between Arthur Wilbur Ayre, 23, finisher, born in England, son of Frederick Ayre and Annie Marie McLellan; and Annie Laura Reid, 20, born in England, daughter of Henry Thomas Reid and Lucy Braham.
