NotesIn 1904, Albert Hill, 16, arrived at Portland, Maine, USA, in a group of 194 Barnardo children en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The following is a POSSIBLE MATCH and as yet unproven to be the same Albert Hill:

A birth registration was found for Albert Ernest Hill: Date: Jan-Feb-Mar 1890; District: Salford; County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire;Volume: 8d; Page: 115. Parents: William Thomas Gibson Hill and Anne Elizabeth Jackson, married April 20, 1879, in Nottinghamshire, England.

Albert Ernest Hill was born November 23, 1889, in Salford, Lancashire, England.

Ann Elizabeth Jackson Hill died on August 13, 1892.

On January 26, 1894, in Manchester, England, the will of William Thomas Gibson Hill of Wynford-street Eccles-new-road Manchester, artist, who died November 23, 1893, at the Sanatorium, Pendleton Salford Administration (Limited), was probated in London and administration granted to James Walter Gibson Hill, Chartered accountant. His effects equaled 40 pounds and 19 shillings.

The orphaned children lived with family in England for some time. Daisy (Edith Elizabeth Hill) was raised by her grandmother, with the boys eventually ending up in the Sir Josiah Mason Orphanage in Erdington Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.

Albert's eldest brother, Fred, arrived in Canada sometime after 1901, as he was still in England at the census. Other brothers, Frank and Walter, followed in the early 1900s. They were destined for Beaverton, Ontario, and it is still unclear where they first stayed, but at some stage they worked with brother Fred, who later farmed on his own account. They managed to carve out lives for themselves and raised families, but did not talk much about their childhood, the orphanage or emigration. It is believed that Walter died in WW1 [no records found]. Frederick remained in Ontario, while Frank and Albert went west to Saskatchewan, where they married and raised families. Frank and his family went to the USA, but Albert stayed in Saskatchewan.

Albert Ernest Hill died on September 11, 1958, at Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada.

End of POSSIBLE MATCH.
