In 1897, Emily Deacon, 7 (along with sister, Alice Deacon, 9), arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 17 children from the Church of England Waifs and Strays Society accompanied by Mrs Francis and en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.
In 1901, Emily Carter, 11, was shown as the adopted daughter of Jenett M. Carter, 52, farmer, of Albion, Cardwell, Ontario, Canada. (Emily always referred to her as "Aunt Jenny.") Her date of birth is shown as June 10, 1889 and her immigration year from England as 1896.
