NotesA birth registration was found for Martha Rosina Akerman: Year of Registration: 1891; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: St Giles; County: London, Middlesex; Volume: 1b; Page: 645. Parents: William Akerman and Helen Sharman, married 1882 in Bethnal Green, London, England.

In 1901, Martha and Maud Akerman were not found. Their sister, Minnie Akerman, 15, is shown as a servant to John Barrington T Chevallier and family in Aspall St Mary, Suffolk, England; and their brother, William Akerman, 11, is shown as a pauper in Strand Union Infant Establishment, Edmonton, Middlesex, England.

In 1901, Martha Akerman, 10, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 105 Barnardo girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

On February 4, 1914, Martha Ackerman, 22, crossed into the United States through the port of Niagra Falls, New York. She declared that her departure contact was her Foster Mother, Mrs Mary H Hutchinson, who resided in Millbrook, Ontario, Canada; that she had previously resided in the USA from 1910 until December 13, 1913; that her arrival contact was her Friend, Mrs Fred Steinhilder, 499 Wilmslow Ave, Buffalo, New York. On March 8, 1915, Martha Ackerman, 23, domestic, arrived in the United States through the port of Buffalo, New York. She declared that her arrival contact was her employer, Mrs Wallace Thayer, 134 Morris Ave, Buffalo, New York; that her departure contact was her sister Maud Wheal, who resided at 5 Beswick Street, Silverthorne Road, Battersea, England; that her final destination was Buffalo, New York; and that that she arrived in Quebec, Canada in 1902.

On January 6, 1920, Martha Akerman, 28, returned to the United Kingdom on the ship Carmania, which left the Port of New York and arrived at Liverpool, England. She declared that she had no occupation; that her address in England was to be 5 Beswick Street, Battersea; that her last permanent residence was in the USA and she intended to reside in a foreign country (not in England.)

On April 14, 1920, Martha R. Akerman, 28, arrived at the Port of New York from Southampton, England, on the ship Mauretania. She declared that she was a shop assistant; that her last permanent residence was in Buffalo, New York; that her contact in England was her sister, Mrs. Harry Wheal, who resided at 5 Beswick Street, Battersea, London; that her final destination was Buffalo, New York; that she had previously resided in the United States for 10-1/2 years; that she was going to join her fiance, Mr. Peter Nackie, who resided at 152 Allen Street, Buffalo, New York; that she intended to remain permanently in the United States; and that she was born in London, England. She was described as 5 feet tall; dark brown hair; hazel eyes; and she had a scar on her upper lip.
