NotesSent to Canada by Bishop Auckland Union, placed with David Caldwell, Halloway, Hastings, Ontario

Age 9, this boy is now in the home awaiting another situation as he was too young for the work. He did not suit Mrs Caldwell for house work. He will be placed with a farmer in a few days, health good, attends church regularly at the home, character good.

December 11 1899

with George Truesdell, farmer, P.O Tilley, Leeds, Ontario

Age 16???, employed at farm chores, health good, attends church and sunday school, does not attend school, character-fairly bright but untruthful. No terms-the lad does not give his employer satisfaction but Mr Truesdell says that he is improving. Everill states that he is well treated, and is satisfied with his place. He has an older brother living in the neighbourhood. Joseph was originally placed with Amos Snyder, farmer, Ernestown, Ontario with whom he remained until May last. He gave me as his reason for leaving that Mr Snyder had treated him badly and whipped him

Mr Wallace having been communicated with replied "It appears on September 14 1898 Mr Snyder wrote complaining of the boy's untruthfulness and dishonesty, and intended returning him to the Home. He did not return and shortly after wrote he had run away from Mr Snyder. He eventually returned to the Home and went to visit his brother. Joseph stated he had accidentally set fire to an old barn, when last visited he seemed to be improving"
