NotesSent to Canada aged 11 from Kensington Union on 29 March 1893 with Rev Wallace

In 1893, William Edbrook arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 169 Marchmont children accompanied by Rev. Robert Wallace and en route to Belleville, Ontario, Canada. [His correct name is not on the manifest, but it is assumed the spelling of his surname was corrupted as it is very obvious he made it to his placement family as per the notes from Kensington Union.]

Dear friend Mr Wallace

I like my new home very much. I was sick for a few days after I come but I am better now. I am learning to milk the cows. I can milk one cow. I am learning to drive the horses. I like Mrs Bolton and Robert very much. I get plenty to eat and a good bed to sleep on. I am getting quite fat that the boys could hardly tell me. The people round about like me very much. The next time i will write a longer one for this is the first letter I ever wrote.

Willie was in the field digging a ditch, he is a healthy looking lad and says he likes his home and thinks this country much better than England. Mrs Bolton speaks well of him, he is obedient and a good boy generally. Goes to school during the winter. Is in 4th book and making good progress. Attends church.
