NotesHis granddaughter related:

He was born on January 20th, 1892 in Lambeth, England to Arthur Keeble and Jane Burt. They lived at 8 Waxwell Terrace. Arthur was a flyman at the theatre (this occupation entailed raising and lowering of the subsidiary curtains and scenery, or 'flying' it out of the way on pulleys.)

It is rumoured that Charles had 2 brothers, Arthur and Joe, and possibly one sister who died tragically just before he was sent to Canada. He may have had a step-mother who signed him over to the Church of England.

Rumour has it that Jane died when Charles was about 10. The father was ill and couldn't care for Charlie. The police picked him up off the streets on April 1st, 1901. The police report said that he was living in cellars and he was beyond the father's control. Charlie was then sent to an industrial school--Walsham-Le-Willows near Bury St Edmunds. He worked there until June of 1906 when he was sent to Canada for "a better life".

He boarded the SS Virginian registered as Charlie Keebell, and headed to Quebec City. From there he was sent to the Gibb's Distributing Home in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

In 1906, Charles Keeble, 14, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with a group of 20 charity boys en route to Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.

He worked on a farm for the Corey family in Kingscroft, Quebec until his late teens.

Charles Keeble married Flora Stone, daughter of Henry and Julia Stone in Quebec, Canada.

On September 19, 1919, Charles Keeble, 26, entered the United States through Newport, Vermont, along with his wife, Flora Keeble, and one son, Arthur Henry Keeble, age 18 months. Both his wife and son were born in Kingscroft, Quebec, Canada. He stated he had bought a farm in Greensboro, Vermont, for $2000 with a $500 downpayment. He further stated that he was born in London, England; that he was a farmer; that he resided in Ayres Cliff, Quebec, Canada; that his contact in Canada was his father in law, Henry Stone, of Ayres Cliff, Quebec, Canada; that he was going to visit his brother-in-law Henry Stone of Greensboro, Vermont; that he intended to remain permanently; that he carried $200 on his person; that he arrived in Canada in 1905. He was described as 5 foot 7 inches in height; medium complexion; brown hair; blue eyes.

In 1920, Charles Keeble, 25, no occupation, was shown as an inmate in the Orleans County Jail, Newport, Orleans, Vermont, USA. (Source: 1920 Census of the United States; Census Place: Newport, Orleans, Vermont; Roll: T625_1874; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 60; Image: 223.)

Charles went back to Ayer's Cliff, Quebec, Canada, settling with Flora and having 9 children.

Charles Keeble died in September 15, 1982. He is buried in Ayers Cliff Cemetery, Ayers Cliff, Stanstead, Quebec, Canada.
