On 25 June 1897, Florence Emily Tatum was baptised at Saint Mary, Battersea, daughter of Edwin and Jessie Tatum, her siblings Herbert Alfred (born June 11 1897), Lilian Emma (born April 6 1890) and Edwin Arthur were also baptised, their address was given as 71 Latchmere Road, and fathers occupation as Engineer

Edwin, Florence and Herbert Tatum were turned over to the Camberwell Board of Guardians, who adopted them. The Guardians arranged immigration to Canada for Edwin Tatum through Fegan's Homes.

In 1909, Florence Tatum, 16, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 17 children from Waifs & Strays en route to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. (Her brother, Edwin (Jack) Tatum, 14, arrived on the Empress of Britain in 1909 with Fegans.)
