On December 7, 1915, at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Reginald Wilfrid Alway, 18, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Bristol, England; that his next of kin was his sister, Miss Lily Alway, who resided at Newscombe, Winscombe, Somerset, England; that his date of birth was December 28, 1896; that he was an Apprentice; and that he was not married. He was described as 5 foot 2-1/2 inches in height; medium complexion; grey eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Methodist faith.
