Notes Comments added by Rootschatter Lyn 8 on 6 June 2018: Thomas Asher b. 1889 to Thomas Asher and Ann Elizabeth Nettleton in Sheffield. Both parents died and Thomas and his brother Walter were placed in the children's homes at Fir Vale Workhouse Sheffield Union.
Added by mollipops1 on 10 June 2018: Thomas' brother Walter (b. 22 Aug 1891) went to Canada aboard Dominion in 1903 also via the Barnardos scheme. He enlisted in March 1915 at New Westminster, British Columbia and served in the 7th Battalion. He was killed in action on 28 Sept 1915, aged 24, and buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Bailleul, Nord, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
