In 1902, Mary Abbott, 13, arrived at Portland, Maine, USA, along with a group of 125 Barnardo girls en route to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Brother David Abbott, 10, was sent to Canada by Barnardos in 1901; and sister, Emily, was sent to Canada in 1903 by Barnardos. They were all sent from Tottenham, London, England. Mother Mary was working around Bures just before the children were sent over.
