Notes In 1884, William Ackland, 15, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 49 Southwark boys en route to various destinations.
In the Fegan Homes newsletters he gives an account of 50 boys he brought out from England on this voyage. On board was Mr. Fegan himself. A few boys stayed in Toronto and the rest taken to Manitoba. Mr. Fegan was the first organization to bring boys to Manitoba. William was going to Portage Le Prairie. Southwark was the street name for the Fegan's Boy's Home in London, England.
