NotesA birth registration was found for Frederick William Attwell: Year of Registration: 1909; Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar; District: Windsor; County: Berkshire, Surrey; Volume: 2c; Page: 426. Mother: Elizabeth Attwell, Single Woman, residing at Crimp Hill House (Workhouse). His mother, Elizabeth Attwell spent time in the workhouse as she is mentioned in the Punishment Book: 3rd Oct 1904: Elizabeth Attwell aged 27 - Disorderly Conduct - to be confined in a separation ward, one day, 3 meals low diet.

Windsor Union Workhouse Relative's Book shows: Relative given as Mrs Smith (Attwell), Grandmother, her address given as Park Lane, Thorpe Leigh Egham. His entry was between July 2, 1912 and July 31, 1913.

Board of Guardians' Minute Book shows:

in pursuance of notice given it was moved by the vice-chairman
That this Board being of opinion that Elizabeth Attwell, the parent of Frederick Attwell, aged seven years (who is now being maintained by the Board) is unfit to have control of him, do resolve that until the said Frederick Attwell shall attain the age of 16 years, or until we rescind this resolution, all the rights and powers of the said Elizabeth Attwell shall, subject as in the Poor Law Act, 1899, is mentioned, vest in the Board,

School Records of St Peter?s School in Old Windsor stated that he joined the school in 1916, his parent/guardian was given as ?The Master ? Boy?s Home? and his address was Albany House (a part of Windsor Workhouse). He left the school in 1920, the note next to his entry reads, ?Left the country (Gone to Canada)?.

On September 11th 1920, Frederick Attwell, 9, arrived in Quebec, Canada (on board the SS Metagama) along with a group of 74 children en route to Marchmont Home, Belleville, Ontario, Canada. He was described as being from the Liverpool Sheltering Homes to the Marchmont Home, Belleville, Ontario; 4 feet 1 inch tall; medium complexion; brown eyes; light brown hair.

His inspection reports showed: Fred ATTWELL aged 11, born 26 March 1911(?), came from Windsor in 1920 through the Macpherson/Birt organization.

18 Feb. 1921 all areas good, has board, clothing and food and with Mark Morton, Lot 1, Conc. 3, Hungerford Township, Thomasburg, Hastings County, Ontario. (Just north of Belleville)

12 May 1925 - has been at the same place throughout, is slow at school.

13 May 1926, $130 a year, with Joseph E. Chapell, Thomasburg.

15 June 1927, $160 a year with William J. Webb - RR#2, Tweed

16 Nov. 1927 - Address uncertain.

21 June 1928 - Did not see - gone from Percy McTaggart, RR#2, Tweed.

Was with Mr. Shaw of Thomasburg.

31 July 1929 - $12 month, Mrs. Ella May, Thomasburg.
