Mother: Ellen Wallis; Probable Father: Henry Alldridge. (No father is listed on the birth certificate.)

Ellen Wallis married Harry (Henry) Alldridge in the March quarter of 1889 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. They had children together both before and after marriage.

Henry Alldridge was a drunk who beat his wife. He died in 1893 in Birmingham aged 32. In November 1894, Ellen placed William Henry and his 2 brothers John Leonard and Francis, and sister Ruth Rebecca, in the Middlemore Children's Home in Birmingham. Notes from the home describe Ellen's plight as dire with no money to feed her 6 starving children. She sold all their possessions and furniture trying to keep the children fed. The children where in rags and infected with lice.

Ellen kept the 2 youngest children with her but then had Arthur Alldridge, an illegitimate child, before she remarried. Ellen died in 1902, aged 41. Her new husband placed the remaining 3 children in the Middlemore Home.

By October 1896 John Leonard was living with the Murray family in Salt Springs, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada.

John Leonard lived with the Murray family until at least 1902. In 1911 John Leonard is in Winnipeg, Manitoba with his brother William Henry and sister Violet and her child.

John Leonard Alldridge (Aldridge) married Matilda Jarrett in Winnipeg August 21, 1911.

John Leonard and Matilda Jarrett Al(l)dridge had four children: William Leonard Aldridge (who married Annie Evelyn Brown) (died 1974); Charles F. Aldridge; Violet Aldridge (who married F. B. Medlock); and Thomas Richard Aldridge (died 1966).

On August 23, 1961, the Winnipeg Free Press reported:

"Mr. and Mrs. John L. Aldridge of Del-Bri Apartments, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Monday with a family dinner at Riviera Restaurant. Both were born in England. He came to Nova Scotia in 1895 and to Winnipeg in 1907. She came to Winnipeg in 1910 and they were married here August 21, 1911. They have lived here since. Mr. Aldridge retired from the Midland Railway in 1950. There are three sons and one daughter: W. Leonard and Charles of Edmonton; Thomas; and Mrs. F. B. Medlock, both of this city. There are 13 grandchildren. Congratulatory messages were received from Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister Diefenbaker, Lieutenant-Governor Willis, Opposition Leader Lester Pearson, Premier Roblin, Gildas Mogat, MLA, Mayor Juba, Ald. Donovan Swailes, and from their eldest grandson, Leonard Aldridge of Edmonton, the only member of the family not present for the celebration."

Matilda Jarrett Aldridge died on November 13, 1971, at the age of 82, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
