Notes Ellen Wallis married Harry (Henry) Alldridge in the March quarter of 1889 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. They had children together both before and after marriage.
Henry Alldridge was a drunk who beat his wife. He died in 1893 in Birmingham aged 32. In November 1894, Ellen placed William Henry and his 2 brothers John Leonard and Francis, and sister Ruth Rebecca, in the Middlemore Children's Home in Birmingham. Notes from the home describe Ellen's plight as dire with no money to feed her 6 starving children. She sold all their possessions and furniture trying to keep the children fed. The children where in rags and infected with lice.
Ellen kept the 2 youngest children with her. Her son, Arthur Alldridge, (Year of Registration: 1897; Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun; District: Birmingham; County: Warwickshire; Volume: 6d; Page: 150) was born 4 years after Harry/Henry died and there is no father on his birth certificate. She remarried and had one more child, then Ellen died in 1901, aged 38. Her new husband placed the remaining 3 children in the Middlemore Home.
In 1904, Alfred Aldridge, 6, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 104 Middlemore children.
