Notes In 1901, William Allen, 9, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 331 Barnardo children: 239 to Toronto, Ontario, Canada; 68 to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; 20 to Russell, Manitoba, Canada; and 3 to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
Sent to Canada by Lambeth Union, an inspection was undertaken on January 28th 1902, address given as Dr Barnardo Home, 214 Farley Ave, Toronto:
"Age 10, in good health, although a mere child, William Allen has been found difficult to manage. He has a habit of running away from his home, causing so much anxiety that the Superintendant of the Barnardo Agency deemed it advisable to return him to England in during the Autumn. He is by no means a stupid boy, and rather a good type. I saw him on two occasions at the Home, 214 Farley Ave, Toronto..."
