On February 21, 1895, Arthur Richard Andrews was admitted to Lambeth Union Workhouse, and transferred on 25 April 1895 to Norwood Schools, he remained there until June 12, 1901, when he was discharged into the care of Barnardo Homes. His sister, Elizabeth Andrews, was admitted to the schools by direction of the Board on September 7, 1898.
Their father was dead and their mother Elizabeth had the two children dependent upon her. Elizabeth removed to 64 Ethelred Street.
In 1901, Arthur Andrews, 9, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a large group of Barnardo children: 239 to Toronto, Ontario; 68 to Winnipeg, Manitoba; 20 to Russell, Manitoba; and 3 to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Age 13, satisfactory home, employed at general work, healthy, attends Presbytarian Church, well behaved,terms-$100 on 1st April 1907 and three years schooling. From what I could gather from Mrs Patterson, Andrews suits them very well, although he has only been there a short time. They will send him to Public School during the winter. Mr Patterson is well recommended to me and the boy is contented
