RootsChat Surname Interests Table (SIT)- Advanced Search -Click on
Wild cards are allowed in the Surname, Place and Comment fields '_' is used for single characters, '*' for several characters e.g. - jon* will show JONES, JONSON, JONQUIL etc. - *one* will show any name with 'ONE' somewhere within the name - _ones will show JONES, BONES et - *ones will show any names ending in ONES, e.g. JONES, CALHONES, etc TIP: Country Searches If you are interested in a particular country, just enter that country and click on "Confirm". For some countries you will then be offered a pull-down menu for selecting a region within that country (counties, states, etc). You can then narrow the search down further, using the "Place" and "Comments" fields. But . . . . Not everybody enters a country and region, as their ancestors moved around a bit So for a second search: enter the county in the Comments field, as *text* this will find all occurrences of 'text' in the comments field. Try the whole county name, then any 'usual' abbreviations, or the Chapman Code (see County drop-down list), etc PLEASE NOTE: In Versions 1 and 2 of the SIT you could only enter a surname and a comment text. So any additional information was in the "Comments" text. Any older entries, which haven't been edited to take advantage of the new features can only be searched on the Surname and Comment fields So for the best results, you will probably need to search for any name at least twice: 'old': just the Surname and/or Comment field, 'new': using at least one of any of the fields. |
