NotesSent by Edmonton Union

placed with Fred C Stewart, P.O Farquhar, Lot 18 N.T.R, Usborne Twp, Huron, Ontario

November 23 1900

Age 11, beneficial home, employed at ordinary light farm chores, quite healthy, attends Methodist Church and school during winter months. Character Satisfactory. Terms-Board and Clothing for 5 years and $100. Mr Stewart and his wife are a young couple, and judging by their farm and buildings are in good circumstances. It is a good locality and convenient to the Public School. The lad states that the work he has to do is not too hard for him, and he has every appearance of being well cared for. He ought to do well here. The longer he is here the better they say they like him.

In 1901, Fred C Stewart, 28, wife Rebecca P, 25, and daughter Mary E, 1, and home boy John Oakley, 11, in Usborne, Perth, Ontario

with Robert Croxford, farmer, Purbrook, Muskoka, Ontario

July 14 1902

Age 13, satisfactorily placed, employed at general chores, strong and healthy, attends Church of England, good character,
Mr Croxford is a small farmer. His home is very neat and tidy, and the boy appears to enjoy every comfort. I was much struck with his personal appearance. Oakley states that he is well used and contented. They like the lad, except for his habit of prevarication, and on this account they feel they can place little dependance on him. They are undecided whether they will keep him during the coming winter.
