Cowell, 3; William Cowell, 30, agricultural labourer; step-sister, Margaret J. Taylor 12; and step-brother, William H. Taylor, 12. Elizabeth Watson Cowell died on July 3, 1890, in Nobles Hospital, Douglas, Isle Of Man.

In 1891, William Ambrose Cowell, 11 years of age, was shown as an inmate in The Isle of Man Industrial Home for Orphan and Destitute Children, Conchan, Isle of Man.

In 1892, William Ambrose Cowell, 13 (along with his brother, Alfred Cowell, 10), arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, with a group of 130 Quarrier children en route to the Fairknowe Home in Brockville, Ontario, Canada.

William Ambrose Cowell returned to the Isle of Man.

On September 5, 1899, at Douglas, Isle of Man, William Ambrose Cowell, 19 years, 11 months of age, enlisted in the British Armed Forces in the Royal Irish Fusiliers. He was described as 5 foot 3-3/4 inches in height; dark complexion; gray eyes; brown hair. He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith. He had a scar in the middle of his forehead and a scar behind his shoulder blade. He served in the Fusiliers from 1899 until 1914, when he was sent to England as an invalid and transferred to the reserves.

William Ambrose Cowell married Kathleen Kelly (born 1883) on November 17, 1907, in Kirk Bradden, Isle of Man. William and Kathleen Cowell had six children: William Alfred Cowell (born December 10, 1919); Kathleen May Cowell; Julia Victoria Cowell (born June 30, 1908); Harold Cowell; Francis Cowell (born November 18, 1913); and George Ambrose Cowell (born January 18, 1912). They resided during the period of William's enlistment at 5 Victoria Mount, Douglas, Isle of Man.

William Ambrose Cowell died January 4, 1944 at 17 Nursery Avenue, Onchan, Isle Of Man. Kathleen Kelly Cowell died November 1, 1962. They are both buried in Douglas Borough Cemetary, Grave #K10.
