NotesBorn 8th June 1894 'Elsinore', Bray, Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Mother's name Martha (Burrowes) West. Father Arthur West Profession Soldier.
Appears on 1901 Irish census living with paternal uncle Francis West in Drum. Co. Monaghan Attended 1st class at Crombe Infant School. Admitted to Smyley Homes Dublin August 1903. Mother deserted by his father, in very poor health herself, and sleeping rough. She died 19th May 1904 in her home town of Portadown. Did not inform her family she had left a child in Dublin.

In 1906, Robert West, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, along with 17 children from the Smyly Homes of Dublin en route to Hespeler, Ontario, Canada.

In 1911, Robert West, 16, was shown as a domestic to William A. and Mary E. Creighton of South Dumfries, Brant, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as June 1894 and his immigration year as 1906. Other employers : Robert Mckie, Paris, Ont. and Turnbull Knitting Co., Brant, Ont

On May 18, 1915, at Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada, Robert Francis West, 22, enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. He declared that he was born in Dublin, Ireland; that his next of kin was his cousin, Mrs. Dollie Shelay, who resided at 48 Charlemont Street, Dublin, Ireland; that his date of birth was June 8, 1893; that he was a farmer; that he was not married; and that he had previously served in the 20th Brant Dragoons. He was described as 5 foot 6-1/2 inches in height; ruddy complexion; blue eyes; dark brown hair. He was a member of the Presbyterian faith. He had 4 vaccination marks on his left arm. {Source:Attestation Record}.

Spent the Winter of 1915-16 bivouacked on Salisbury Plain, England. Contracted Pneumonia, one of many soldiers nursed by the villagers of Urchfont. Met his 1st wife through this. Marriage 19th November 1916, St. Michael's Church , Urchfont to Barbara Ellen Stokes. Shown as soldier in His Majesty's Army, residence Epsom Barracks. {Source: Marr. Cert.}

Wounded France 1918, returned to Canada. Visited Hespelier Home, informed them of his marriage.
Barbara Ellen (aka Ellen) travelled January 1919 to Canada as War Bride. No children-divorced sometime between 1920-1923

Second marriage to Nellie Warburton (born Leicester 1895) emigrated to Canada with her parents & siblings 5th Jan 1913 on "Empress of Britain" Marriage took place 8th October 1923 in Ontario. No children.

Robert Francis Westdied 1933 from Heart Attack and chronic TB.
