Athens - A man who helped build Trinity Anglican Church in Addison and was the organist there for 66 years died January 11.

Hugh Campbell, a retired farmer died while residing at the Maple View Lodge in Athens. He was 95. Mr. Campbell was born August 27, 1896 in Dunfermline, Scotland. He was the son of the late Hugh Campbell and the former Mary Murdoch. He emigrated to Canada in 1907 and lived on the dairy farm of Mr. and Mrs. James Love on the Eloida Road. Mr. Campbell lived and worked on the farm. He went on to marry the former Mary Wills in Athens September 26, 1923. Mr. Campbell lived on the farm from 1907 until 1984 when he and his wife moved to Athens. His wife died July 13, 1986 but he continued to live in Athens until 1988 when he moved into the seniors home. Mr. Campbell was a member of Trinity Anglican Church in Addison and had been a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge No 14 since 1919 and the Royal Black Perceptory RBP Lodge no 883. He was also a member of the Athenia Senior Citizens Club in Athens and enjoyed playing pool there. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Swerdfeger and her husband Arnold of Ottawa, and also by one granddaughter Miss Mary Ann Swerdferger of Ottawa. Other survivors include two sister in laws, Mrs. carmar Anderson (Bessie) in Athens and Mrs. John Rudl (Helen) of Brockville. He is predeceased by one sister Jennie Campbell and two brothers Patrick Neil Campbell and Henry Campbell. He is also predeceased by John M Simpson of Addison, a close friend. Visitation took place at the Judson Funeral Home in Athens Sunday between 2 and 9 pm. Special services were held at the Loyal Orange Lodge and RBP on Sunday night. A service was held at the funeral home January 13 at 2 pm under the guidance of Rev Susan Steers of Athens. During the ceremony the congregation sang Campbell's favorite hymns "The Lord is my Shepherd" and Lord Jesus Think of Me. Interment took place at the New Dublin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Dixie, doug Dixie, John Mole, Jim Dixie, Gary Gray and Ernie Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Chant, Lawrence Dixie, gordon Simzer and Lawrence Barrington.
