Attestation papers were signed 26 Jul 1915 in Hamilton, Ontario. James Scott was born in Birgham, Berwickshire, Scotland on 30 Nov 1897. His Next of Kin was Mrs. Margaret Scott, his mother, of the same location. He was a Painter by trade. 5'9" in height with blue eyes and brown hair. he had a birthmark on his left cheek and two vaccination marks on his left arm.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers states he was Killed in Action. His Next of Kin was Mrs. Margaret Scott of Brigham, Soldstream, Scotland. Circumstances of Casualty states that he was killed in the trenches south west of Courcelette. He is buried in Sunken Road Cemetery, Contalmaison, Somme, Picardie, France. Plot: I. F. 13.
