1891 Census Residing at 51 Ferry Road, Leith, Edinburgh - as "Williamina McBeath, 'son', age 1" of John Wilson and his wife, with whom her mother and father were Boarding.

Information received from Records and Genealogy at Quarriers, Quarriers Village, Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire confirms that Amelia and her brother William were received into care at the City Orphan Home, James Morrison Street, Glasgow on 27 Jul 1896 where they would have been medically examined and if necessary treated, cleaned up, fed and clothed before being transferred to the main part of the organisation at Bridge of Weir. They arrived there the following day where Amelia was placed in Cottage 21 and William in Cottage 38. It was normal practice at the time to have separate cottages for boys and girls.

An entry in the Orphanage records reads as follows:
"1896 July 27
Amelia Williamina McBeath Baggett born 4 Hope St Leith on 29 Oct 89
William Francis McBeath Baggett born 51 Ferry Rd Leith on 13 Mar 91
Both born before marriage. Had measles only. Father Wm McBeath, a ships cook, died in Hamburg of inflammation of the lungs.
Mother Amelia m.s. Baggett presently at 154 Constitution Street, Leith, has youngest child 2 years old still with her. She intends to go into a stewardess situation. Her mother is a stewardess. Mat [maternal] aunt Lizzie Baggett is staying with her and accompanies her here.
Mother has work fully explained and signs form giving full control. Children seem healthy.
