NotesParents: Robert Brown born Glasgow, Scotland about 1860 and Annie Donabie born Irvine, Ayr, Scotland about 1860. He was the 3rd child of a Journeyman Boilermaker who worked in the ship yards in Glasgow. Apparently his Father died (Mother is shown later as a widow). Without the financial support of the Father, his Mother could not look after 3 young children, so he and his two siblings were sent to the colonies to work, learn a trade and at least have proper meals. It is hard to realize today how severe a blow it was to a family when the breadwinner died. There was only the local authorities and the church to turn to and their help was minimal.

In 1891, Peter Brown, 10, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with a group of 130 children from Quarriers Home, Bridge of Weir, Scotland, accompanied by Mr. Burgess and Mr. Quarrier.

Older brother Robert Brown (born Glasgow, Scotland, 1878) was possibly sent to Australia or New Zealand and sister, Agnes Brown (also known as Annie, born Glasgow, Scotland, 1877), may have been sent to the USA. It appears that their Father died about 1890 as Agnes is shown later as a Widow.

Peter Donabie Brown was fortunate enough to be sent to a prosperous farm family who looked after him and sent him to school until he was about 16. He was always well treated by the family, and frequently visited them in later years. He took his own children to the farm when they were young. When the older members of the farm family died, Peter was left bequests and was assisted in setting up a business.
