In 1883, Matthew Mooney, 11, arrived at Quebec, Canada, in a group of 26 Catholic children from Prescot Union Board of Guardians and en route to Father Whelan at St. Patrick Orphanage, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Matthew Mooney and Rebecca Armstrong had at least 4 children: Marialine Mooney, born November 4, 1905 (died November 6, 1906 of an unknown cause), in Algoma, Ontario, Canada; Mary Irene Mooney, born February 9, 1904, in Algoma, Ontario, Canada; Ambrose Mooney, born March, 1909, in Algoma, Ontario, Canada; and Joseph Anthony Mooney, born September 1, 1913, in Larchwood, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada (died August 30, 1981, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada).

Catherine Rebecca Mooney died on August 4, 1918, at the age of 40 in St. Josephs Hospital, Chelmsford, Ontario, Canada, of general septicaemia from a hysterectomy, duration 2 weeks.
