NotesA birth record was found for Thomas Abbey: Year of Registration: 1892; Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep; District: Stockton; County: Durham, Yorkshire - North Riding; Volume: 10a; Page: 58.

A death record was found for Thomas Abbey's father, Thomas Abbey, Sr.: Estimated Birth Year: abt 1856; Year of Registration: 1895; Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar; Age at Death: 39; District: Stockton; County: Durham, Yorkshire - North Riding; Volume: 10a; Page: 40.

Thomas Abbey arrived in Quebec with a party of 310 children from Dr. Barnardo, including his brother John and his sister Bertha Abbey, en route to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Thomas did a good deal of crossing into the US between 1914 - 1917:

On December 26, 1914, Thomas Abbey crossed into the United States through Buffalo, New York. He declared he was 22 years of age; from Stockton, England; his next of kin was his brother, William Abbey of England; and he did not know the address of the person he would be visiting in Buffalo. He further declared he was a flour packer in Pt. Colbourne, Ontario. He stated he had immigrated to Quebec on September 29, 1904, on the Dom. Line (researcher's note: incorrect and unverifiable).

In January, 1915, he entered the United States through Buffalo, New York. He stated he was a flour packer and his next-of-kin was his brother, William Abbey of Stockton, England.

On December 26, 1916, Thomas Abbey crossed into the United States through Niagara Falls, New York. He declared that he was from Stockton, Yorkshire, England; that he was 24 years of age; that he was a taut assembler and resided in Pt. Colbourne, Ontario, Canada; that he had no friends or relatives in Canada; and that he was going to stay with a friend, James Row, 572 St. Aulbin Street, Detroit, Michigan. He is described as 5 foot 4 inches in height; fresh complexion; blue eyes and brown hair. He stated he had come into the United States in 1904 through Quebec on the SS Southwark (researcher's note: this was verified. Thomas did enter on this ship with his sister Bertha and his brother John).

In January, 1917, Thomas Abbey entered the United States through Buffalo, New York. He stated he was a tank assembler; that his next of kin was William Abbey of Stockton, England; and that he had no relatives, but his father's name was Thomas.

On May 22, 1917, Thomas Abbey entered into the United States through Buffalo, New York. He stated he was a metal worker; that he intended to remain permanently in the United States; and that he was en route to Detroit, Michigan. His next of kin was listed as his brother John Abbey, North Street, Stockton, England.

On June 5, 1917, Thomas Abbey enlisted in the United States Armed Forces. He declared that he was residing at 219 Fourth Street, Niagara Falls, New York; that his birthdate was June 20, 1893; that he had filed First Papers of Intent to become a US citizen; that he was born in Stockton, Yorkshire, England; that he was a laborer for the Carborundum Co. of Niagara Falls, New York; and that he was single with no next-of-kin listed. He was described as of medium height; medium build; blue eyes; brown hair and had no disability. (World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918; Roll: 1818493.)

Thomas Abbey died October, 1978, in Alexandria, Madison, Indiana.
