NotesEdward was sent to work on farms around Oro Station in the Barrie, Ontario area. He served in the 19'th Battallion during World War I. Thereafter, he farmed near Pontypool, Ontario while raising a large family of seven children with his wife Winnifred. In 1946, he sold the farm and became the caretaker of the Durham County Forest. He became a prolific writer by publishing a weekly article in the Bowmanville Statesman entitled "Ed Youngman's Column". In 1965, he and his wife retired to Bowmanville where sadly he died a year later on June 18, 1966.

Edward was the brother of Augustus, also a home child. Sadly, they never saw each other after Edward was sent to Canada. Augustus was to follow two years later and at one point they were living and working thirty miles from each other. They did, however, correspond with each other.
