Gwendolyn Rose Bennett Pottie died July 10, 2008, in Tarbot, Nova Scotia Canada. A memorial was posted in the Cape Breton Post:

Gwendolyn Rose (Bennett) Pottie, Tarbot - We, the family of Gwen Pottie, regret to announce her passing on July 10, 2008. Gwen 'Mom' was born in Birmingham, England, Jan. 21, 1914, to Albert and Rosanna Bennett. She came to Canada as a "little immigrant" in May 1924, to the home of Donald and Mary Smith, West Tarbot. She resided with them and learned all the crafts of Cape Breton life from farming to all domestic duties.

Mom was noted for years for her abilities as a spinner, weaver, knitter and quiltmaker (every stitch done by hand). Her quilts have warmed the beds throughout the United States, Scotland and Germany, as well as many other places. She married Lauchie Pottie in 1942 and most of their life was lived "at the corner" in Tarbot. He predeceased her in March 1996.

Gwen was a life member of the Weavers Guild. She will be remembered for her humour, her faith in the Lord Jesus and her zest for life. She will be remembered always, loved and missed by her children, Rosanna (Everett Lewis), Carl (Lynn) and Marsha (Sandy) Allen; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren. She is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. To her family, she is indeed a Prov. 31 woman and they will rise up and call her blessed! Visitation and a memorial service will be held Sunday, July 13, 2008, in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, North River, with the visitation from 3:30-4:30 p.m. with Rev. Shirley Murdoch officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill Funeral home, Baddeck.
