NotesIn December Qtr of 1912 Thomas H Lucking married Esther Squires in West Bromwich

Henry and Wilfred's father Henry Charles Sr. died in a West Bromwich workhouse in 1912. They were living with and aunt and subsequently became home children even though their mother was still living. They came to Nova Scotia with Middlemore homes. Henry was placed with a caring family but Wilfred had a couple of placements and ended up in the Halifax asylum for mental problems. He was deported back to England in 1917 and died in Hatton Asylum in 1930.

On Jan 1st 1916, Henry Chas Squires, fireman & woodsman, d.o.b Nov 4th 1899 Birmingham, Eng, enlisted in Canadian Army. He gave his address as Portapique, Nova Scotia. His next of kin-mother-Mrs Esther Lucking, 43 Alfred St, Handsworth, Birmingham. Henry was in 224 Forestry Battalian and losthis right forearm in a sawmill accident. He was discharged and sent back to Canada in 1916.

He married a local Nova Scotia girl, Annie Mabel White, and they went to Alberta in the 1920's to homestead and raise a family. Henry died in Peace River in 1984.

In October 1918, Henry Squires entered America via Winnipeg, he was debarred but submitted an appeal he was deported in November 1918. He was a farm labourer, His contact in Canada was W Croolamn? Portapique, NS, friend, he was heading for J Crowder, Bath Gate,
