NotesIn 1923, William Powell, 4, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in a group of 62 boys and 12 girls from Middlemore Homes.

When William arrived, just a few weeks short of his 5th birthday, he was taken in by Ernest and Mary Bell of West New Annan, Nova Scotia, Canada, region and adopted by them.

William George Powell Bell died at the age of 88 on Saturday, August 27, 2005, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada.

His Obituary appeared in the Truro Daily News on August 30, 2005:

BELL, William George Powell "Bill" - 88, Bible Hill, died Saturday, August 27, 2005, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Birmingham, England, a British Home Child, adopted by the late Ernest and Mary Bell, West New Annan.

He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte "Peg" (Birch) Bell; son, William H. Bell. He is survived by son, John Bell, Ontario; daughter, Susan Mosher (Mark), Debert; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine Snair; two nieces and two nephews.

He was a truck driver for many years for Hartlands Petroleum, the first truck driver for Brookfield Creamery, Eastern Transport, Acadian Bus Lines and owned his own trucking firm. He loved music, playing the fiddle and then the drums. He played for the Bible Hill Swingers, which he named and they made three record albums, he also played for the Y Seniors every Thursday night, and also for the seniors at Monroe Court, The Mira, Bible Hill Fire Hall and several birthday and anniversary parties.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Brunswick Street United Church, Truro, Rev. Marilyn MacDonald officiating with a reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will then be held in Bible Hill Cemetery.
